ESO 2019 ATHENS | MAKTE AT THE TOP EVENT FOR ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS

ESO2019 is the main event dedicated to the world of design and art in Greece.

The eighth edition of the ESO is organized by archisearch.gr magazine and Vasilis Bartzokas, in collaboration with Dimitris Fakinos from + Rivista DESIGN, while the program was presented and coordinated by the visual artist and founder of the Athens Biennale, Poka Yio.

London, Athens, New York, Milan, Copenaghen, Pesaro. As every year, the best professionals from the architecture and interior design field, grafic design and visual arts will be present at the Athens Onassis Cultural Center.

KATSARAS + MAKTE = MAKTE ATHENS…SOON!

Thanks to the prestigious collaboration established with the distribution company Katsaras, Makte flew to Athens not to miss the most important hellenic event of the year. The goal? Get in touch with the best professionals in the architecture field, looking for new trends and materials and the most innovative design and architecture projects.

For Makte will be days immersed in the fantastic setting of the Onassis Cultural Center, a building restored in 2004 by the Onassis Foundation with a surface of 3.000 sq.m. and 18.000 sq.m. of interior design of the highest level in the historic center of Athens.

ESO 2019 AT “ONASSIS CULTURAL CENTRE”.

Is the space where contemporary culture meets aesthetic and science.

The Onassis Cultural Center is a stage where the boundaries between science, art, society, education and politics are renegotiated.

Having decided that it need a building of high architectural value, the ONASSIS FOUNDATION staged an international architecture competition.

A competition whose object was the restoration of an old building to be enhanced according to this objective:

“Generating actions, interventions and ideas that feed the continuous improvement of human nature”

The design chosen from the 66 proposal sent from all over the world, was created by the French architecture practice “Architecture Studio”. Their core architectural concept is encapsulated in the building’s facade: an airy white rectangular shell which makes innovative use of white marble bands.

THE EXTERNAL ARCHITECTURAL SRTUCTURE…

The unique configuration of the facade serves as a stage set which imbues the building with a sense of mystery…

….during the day (when the marble bands serve to reflect the intense attic light and create the impression from afar of a gentle wave)…

…and during the night (when, artificially lit, they turn the image inside out by allowing the inside of the building to shine through and revealing the warm shell surrounding the rooms and auditoria)

…AND THE INTERIOR DESIGN OF THE BUILDING.

The main stage is an 880 seats amphitheater. The multiplicity of possible configuration of stages and lights make it possible to use this impressive auditorium for a wide range of events. From theater and dance performances, concerts and film screening to conferences and lectures.

Than we can find a wonderful 220 seats auditorium usable for smaller theater, musical and dance performances, presentations, conferences, film screenings (multimedia, virtual reality), lectures and conferences, two exhibition halls (one on the fifth floor more intimate and one underground of 700 sq.m.) and vast open spaces.

The Onassis Cultural Center has absolutely become an architectural and cultural destination of Athens not to be miss, both for events, or just for a simple visit.
